Ali Danesh, PhD

Dr. Danesh is an Assistant Professor of Immunology Research at Weill Cornell Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases. He earned his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Immunology, University of Toronto. Ali studied the role of cytokine storm and interferon-regulated genes in SARS patients and in ferrets infected with SARS Corona Virus. He also collaborated with other investigators and studied immune responses to Influenza, West Nile Virus, Community Acquired Pneumonia, and HIV. As a post-doctoral fellow and then a scientist at Vitalant Research Institute/UCSF in San Francisco, Ali acquired unique expertise to study the effect of exosomes and microvesicles on T cells and monocytes. He joined the Laboratory of Antiviral Cellular Immunity in January 2019 and leads the mouse studies, focusing on the role of primary and engineered T cells and NK cells in HIV latency.
